The more natural food choices we make the better.

Most of us know the best diet for optimum health and weight is that of fresh organic fruits and vegetables, but did you know that eating certain fats can benefit you? In fact, an old fashioned natural diet that didn't cause our ancestors to gain excess pounds was high in fat. We have been led to believe that polyunsaturated fats like vegetable oil are good for us and that saturated fats like coconut oil, whole eggs, and real butter will kill us or make us overweight. However, there appears to be some contradictory evidence to this belief--on top of the fact that most people eating a low fat diet actually gain weight. We have the highest number of obese and chubby people that this country has ever seen. Most us of fill up on simple carbohydrates and polyunsaturated fats like candy, breads, corn syrup, imitation cheeses, noodles, and foods cooked with vegetable shortening. When people of other countries begin eating the American diet, they tend to start gaining weight. What does this tell us?

The Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University discovered that in order to please the public's demand for leaner pork, they needed to switch their pigs' diets from polyunsaturated vegetable oils to saturated fats. They began to feed the pigs coconut oil to reduce the animals' body fat. If pigs can get lose weight eating saturated fats, so can we by eating a diet rich in good fats.

Our ancestors ate foods containing healthy fats, such as cows that have eaten only grass, natural dairy products, and eggs. Fats can be found in liquid form called oil or solid form called fat. Fats or lipids are contained in animal meats like lard, animals from the sea as in fish oil, and in fruits and vegetables. The saturated fats found in olive oil, coconuts, avocados, nuts, real butter, and eggs make us feel satisfied and lead to weight loss.

The fatty acid found in coconut oil is called a medium chain fatty acid which helps burn fat and increases metabolism. Just eat a teaspoon of coconut oil before each meal or cook with coconut oil to help burn away that unwanted fat. Vegetable oils contain longer chain fatty acids which are stored as fat. So, polyunsaturated fats actually lead to weight gain. Fats also are necessary for our survival and contain the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. So when fat is removed from a food product, so are many of its nutrients. What could be better for us than the natural foods put on this planet since the beginning of time?

Remember to always consult your doctor when beginning a weight loss regime. Losing weight can be a difficult feat, but eating the right foods can lead to a brighter, slimmer you. Stay away from processed, low fat foods which make you gain weight. Eating smaller portions of food and the correct foods will help you get healthy and lose weight. Get started on a new you by eating more natural saturated fats, such as butter, eggs, and nuts.
