Loud And Proud: Dual Exhaust Systems Are In

Cars and trucks with dual exhaust are some of the sportiest looking and sound the best. This is mostly because the pipes are longer and the muffler is less obtrusive so the sound can come out fuller and richer. Dual exhaust systems are certainly much better looking and will help to fill out the back of your vehicle much better. Along with the looks, there will be the increase in power and the improvement of the sound coming out of them. But what should you look for in a true dual exhaust system? Here are some options for your vehicle.

The first choice that most people look for is an exhaust system that will help to define the back of their car or truck much easier. This means that many people look first at where the pipes exit the underbody. Dual exhaust systems are nice because you have more choice over where you want the pipes to stick out from the body. At the back of your vehicle, you can have them stick out more toward the middle of the bumper, or you can go for a larger split that has the pipes sticking out of either side of the bumper right behind the wheels. You can also go for a compromise and choose something that just sticks out the back where the tail pipes normally would.

Another choice that you have with a dual exhaust is to make it shorter so that it is a side exit exhaust. These types of exhaust systems are most commonly found on high performance vehicles and are going to be much more stylish and performance oriented. The actual exit point of these types of dual exhaust systems is usually directly in front of the rear wheels. Not only will this produce the visual upgrade you want for the side of the vehicle, it will also mean that you can keep the back of your car or truck clean. On a truck specifically, you could install a dual side exit exhaust system and a roll pan on the back to give it that custom look that is also very smooth.

The third choice that you have when looking at an exhaust system that has dual pipes is a true dual exhaust. What this involves is a full pipe system for each bank of exhaust headers. Essentially, you would have a pipe coming from the right bank to the back of the vehicle and a pipe from the left bank back. What this will do is seriously improve the sound and performance like nothing else. The exhaust gasses will have the least amount of backpressure associated with them when they can travel straight back and that will equal more power and torque.

From my own experience, dual exhaust systems are easy to install and are actually much lighter than the stock system. When you do start to pick and choose which sort of exhaust system works best for you, it is best to remember to choose one that is made specifically for your vehicle so that you don’t have to custom fabricate anything and so all the parts fit perfectly the first time you go to install them.
