Mp3 Players Do More Than Just Play Music

It continues its evolution from single audio player to complex multimedia device. More and more players have the ability to show digital photos transferred from your computer. These models usually also play music videos, TV shows, and short films.

MP3 players do more than just play music. They perform well at their main task of producing near-audio-CD quality from a headphone jack. Many models also have small screens to display photo and video files.

Before you buy any digital player, be sure your computer can handle it. New computers shouldn't be a problem, but make sure any player you're considering is compatible with your older Windows or Macintosh computer (including its operating system). Some system upgrades can exceed the price of a player.

Your computer must have a USB port. You should have high-speed Internet service if you plan to download most of your music.

There are two types of hard-disk players: microdrive and standard hard-disk. Palm-sized microdrive players have a tiny hard drive with storage capacity of 3 to 8 GB or about 750 to 2,000 songs. Standard hard-disk players are about the size of a deck of cards with storage capacity of 10 to 60 GB or about 2,500 to 15,000 songs.

Most MP3 players come with software to convert your CDs into the audio playback format the player can handle. You can organize your music collection by artist, album, genre, or a variety of other categories, as well as create playlists to suit your mood or occasion.

According to research, portable music players can damage your hearing. Many players can reach potentially damaging volumes, and many users might crank the sound up that high regularly.

To avoid hearing loss, the experts say never set your music player's volume higher than the same level as a vacuum cleaner or a noisy restaurant ----about 85 decibels.
