So your PC isn't running as fast as it did right out of the box? It ran faster before, so what now? It could be the hardware, but in most cases slowed performance speed is due to a lack of attention and maintenance to the software operating system. Fortunately, there are more than a few ways to make your PC faster than it was before. This is probably the best way to make your PC faster. Let's go over the steps that can be taken.
• Upgrade Random Access Memory
• Free up disk space
• Speed up access to data
• Detect and repair disk errors
• Protect against Spyware, Adware and Malware
• Uninstall Programs you don't use
• Eliminate programs at startup
The amount of RAM your computer has is essentially its capacity to run multiple programs at once. My computer, 1.7 gigabytes, and it still runs slowly at times. Anything that is 2 gigabytes and upwards is going to run relatively fast. The more complex and memory consuming the program is, the less RAM there will be available to run other processes. Check with your computer manufacturer on upgrades that are available for your computer to make it run faster.
Another way to make your PC faster is to free up disk space. You can use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool by clicking start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools and then Disk Cleanup. I've done this, and most of the time since my computer is already running slow, it will freeze, or do something else that makes me want to throw my computer through the nearest window. I found CCleaner while searching online. It's free, doesn't give your computer spyware or malware, and it works great.
Make your computer faster by speeding up access to data. Like the Disk Cleanup tool, the Disk Defragmenter is also located in the System Tools tab. The Disk Defragmenter will allow your computer to run faster and more efficiently by making it easier to access files and data. Disk Defragmentation should be done every two weeks or so.
To detect and repair disk errors you can run the registry checker that Windows supplies, or purchase a third part registry cleaner, which is probably your best bet. To use the Windows registry tool, go to My Computer, right click the hard disk you want to check, and click Properties. Click the Tools tab and click the Check Now button. In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box and then click Start. There are plenty of free registry checkers online also.
Your computer may be slowed by spyware, malware or adware that are for all intensive purposes right now, are just things that make your computer run slow, bad and in a generally unpleasant manner. Removing all of these things can make your PC faster instantly. These are like a weight that your PC is carrying and will feel the effects immediately once they are removed.
Get rid of all the programs you don't use. This will remove programs that are just taking up space and bogging down your processing speed. Click on your Start panel and find the Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs. A list will compile of all the programs that are currently installed on your computer. Uninstall or remove the ones that you don't need or use and you are done. This is probably the simplest way to make your PC faster. If you are tired of waiting forever for your computer to run smoothly after it starts up, here's a quick fix for that. Remove those programs that start every time you start your computer. Now, realize that some programs, like AOL Instant Messenger and other messaging services need to be deactivate within the program so they no longer start after you start your computer. On the Programs menu within the Start menu, there is a Start Up tab where you can right click and delete the programs that start. This will get you up and running more quickly.
Implementing these techniques should free up space and speed up processing speed on your computer.
