Making Money Selling Crafts

I know there are lots of people who would like to know if it's possible to make money selling their own crafts. Some would like to make a few extra dollars while others would like to establish a real business. Here's a couple of stories that just might encourage you.

My daughter has a friend that really enjoys knitting. This friend is around the age of 14. Lately she has been knitting hats. She advertises them on one of the craft sites on the web.

She has been selling them for $20 each. Just last month she sold 40 of them. Even I was surprised to hear that. If you stop and think about it, $800 a month isn't a bad income for a 14 year old. I'm sure that for those looking to make a few extra dollars, they wouldn't mind that amount either.

I have another friend of mine who is a very talented gal who has been involved in making crafts since she was a little girl on the farm. She is now married with several children most of which are grown and out of the house.

For a number of years now she has been running a craft business where she sells a number of different crafts. One of her primary activities is designing her own sewing patterns. However, it's by far not all that she does.

Just recently she was knitting socks like crazy. I couldn't believe all of what she was telling me she was doing to make socks. Apparently there was some big sock festival she was going to attend so she was frantically knitting them up.

She's also involved in quilting too. She gets together with other gals and they all work on their quilts together. Eventually she puts them up for sale.

While all of these are activities that she would be doing whether or not she was making any money, the fact is, she is making money. She pulls in $4000 - $6000 a month at her business.

I don't know that you could really say she even does it full time. She is a mom, a home schooler, a church woman, has cows and chickens and does a bunch more stuff too.

I know that it's at least a part time job for her and that whenever I see her she's never just sitting. She always has something in her hands she's working on. To me that sounds like a decent chunk of change.

I'm sure there are probably a lot more people that could add their comments as to what they're doing as well. So if you're wondering if selling crafts can make you some money my answer to that is "Yes".

You just need to take the time to do a little homework to find out what's selling and the places to put your items up for sale. Before you know it you could have a nice bit of extra income, or making yourself a decent living.
