Making A Small Dorm Room Feel Good For Both People

Moving to a dorm room after living in a more substantial space can be a bit of an adjustment, especially for those who aren't really pleased with the person with whom they will be living. Being roommates with someone that you barely know and with someone that you may or may not click with can be challenging. It is always the best idea to try and make the most out of the roommate situation, but many proceed into this in the wrong way trying to take a small dorm room space and create two separate, different spaces.

Because the space is so compact already it is best to try to get with your roommate in advance and try to discover what they intend to bring, and when at all possible it is actually best to contemplate shopping together for items that complement each other. Now this can be tough and sometimes nearly impossible because tastes vary and it is likely that you and your roommate may not be on the same page as far as styles and colors. However it really is the best thing to find what you can agree upon and not what you can't, for several reasons.

The first reason is that the room will not only look more cohesive if you work together but will become a larger and more functional space. Having a flow that makes it look more put together will make this space feel larger, and will also help both of you feel more comfortable in your dorm room. Remember this will be your home for the next year and you will want to do everything you can to make it a place that is happy and a pleasant place to entertain, study, and just generally spend some time.

Synchronizing with your roommate can also assist in saving you a lot of cash on your dorm room decor as this will allow you to each buy some of the items without a lot of duplication, which is not only costly but also creates more clutter because this is a space that won't be able to maintain two of everything comfortably. This will help to make more space free for storage, personal items, and extras.

Your thoughts may be that it will be impossible to shop with a roommate who could reside in another city, state, or even country, but using the Internet you can shop online for dorm room items and you can use this method to display different things back and forth to each other. Purchasing items this way will help you to coordinate everything and include both opinions while getting the items you need to make a nice looking, comfy dorm room for everyone involved.
