While cosmetic plastic surgery used to be seen as almost wholly a "female thing," men are rapidly catching up. Men make up over 35% of cosmetic surgery patients. The percentage of male television and movie stars who have undergone plastic surgery grows by the day. Some of the male stars who have had plastic surgery are Burt Reynolds, Kenny Rogers, Mickey Rourke, and Bruce Jenner. Famous men suspected of having plastic surgery include Clint Eastwood, Michael Douglas, and Clay Aiken. And of course, the most famous male plastic surgery patient was the late Michael Jackson.
Rogers and Reynolds both appear to have had face lifts that have done little except interfere with the handsome, yet rugged faces they used to have. Rupert Everett is another male star who has been rendered almost unrecognizable after having had plastic surgery on his face. While the new face is perhaps more balanced, or symmetrical, it looks like it belongs to someone else entirely.
Bruce Jenner, star at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games has also had a face lift. The effect is, again, that he looks as if he is wearing someone else's face. Mickey Rourke used to have a certain tough guy "je ne sais quoi," but now, having undergone extensive plastic surgery on his face, he just looks slightly scary.
Gary Busey has had extensive plastic surgery on his face. Now, much of it can be attributed to a serious motorcycle accident he was in many years back. It is hard to discern whether his drastically altered appearance is the result of reconstruction after the accident, or if additional cosmetic work was done on top of it.
While it isn't clear why a radio star needs plastic surgery, nonetheless, satellite radio fixture Howard Stern has said that he had the bump removed from his nose and some fat sucked out from under his chin. He is still quite recognizable as Howard Stern, however, and doesn't appear to have gone overboard with the surgical makeover.
While Michael Douglas hasn't said much one way or another, the general consensus is that he's had a face lift and a brow lift. The tautness of his face contrasts with the lack of tautness on his neck, which is further evidence that his face has been surgically altered. The comedian Carrot Top has drastically transformed himself over the past decade, with the most noticeable change being highly arched brows that could be due to either a brow lift, strategic injection of Botox, or both.
Clearly cosmetic plastic surgery isn't just a woman's world anymore.
