Arthritis may limit you from participating in some activities, but it does not have to control your life. The first step towards managing your pain is to have a positive attitude. Your mind plays an important role in how you react to illness and pain. You have to think positive and retain a good sense of humor if you want to help yourself with arthritis.
Some of the ways that you can help manage your arthritis pain is through regular exercise, protecting your joints, utilizing hot and cold compresses, getting enough sleep and undergoing massage therapy. Regular exercise is beneficial to your overall health. By exercising you keep your joints moving and you strengthen the muscles around the joints. One of the best physical activities for people who suffer from this illness is swimming. Swimming is easy on the joints because it does not have a strong impact on swollen joints.
Utilizing hot and cold compresses can aid in reducing the swelling and the pain of the joints. If your joints are in pain then a cold compress will numb the pain and reduce the swelling. Heat tends to relax the muscles and improve circulation. Getting enough sleep on the other hand can help you deal better with the pain because it rests your joints and restores your energy. Massage therapy can bring warmth and relaxation to swollen and stressed joints. However, be sure that to ask your doctor whether he/she is aware of any massage therapists who specialize in providing relief massages to people who suffer from arthritis. Even though it may be difficult at times to undergo an exercise session or a massage session, try to remain positive and keep up with your tasks. The most important thing is to think positive and don’t let arthritis take control of your life.
