Margarita island can be divided up into three parts. These are the main cities of La Asuncion, Pampatar, and Porlamar. Porlamar is the most popular city with the old history of a fishing village and the modern excitement of a major tourist attraction. Pampatar is great for outdoor activities and not as crowded. It has a great balance mix of the old and the new. La Caranta boasts of its beautiful sailboats from around the world and helps to make this city a great joy. Finally, Asuncion is the most historical city you will see on Margarita island. Most of the battles between pirates and locals took place right here in Asuncion.

Of course there is more than just tourist’s shopping and historical sites to see on Margarita island. Outdoor activities are also very popular and El Yaque has some world-class diving and windsurfing. The village of Juan Griego is great for a romantic sunset while a little wildlife can be discovered at La Restinga National Park and Lagoon. Golf, horseback riding, and fishing can all be part of your vacation if you enjoy these activities. Say hello to the Margariteños who are the local people from Margarita Island.
