Marine Equipment Basics

The sea is a beautiful place that can be full of adventure and freedom. It is also a dangerous and unruly place. You would have to be a complete fool to go sailing with the proper equipment. You are going to need every advantage that you can get in order to survive the treacherous waters.

The first thing you need to recognize is that this isn't the early age of shipping. Yes, a number of explorers and sailors traveled around the globe using a compass and the stars. They did it in a wooden ship with the design of a large crate and all on moldy and weevil-filled bread. They also had huge losses and often didn't come back.

The point of that little diatribe is that you need the best equipment available if you want to safely travel through the great outdoors. This really isn't too much of a burden either. It's just upgrades for the standard tools of the trade. Maps are now marine GPS systems and telescopes are Bushnell scopes. Don't forget about the high number of boating and marine electronics that are also available to the average sailor today. They make communication much easier to keep weather reports at your fingertips and the coast guard just a button away.

There is so much to say for the advances that we've made throughout the last hundreds of years. Old maps made sea travel a journey into the fog. GPS systems mean that you'll never be unsure of your position. The latest developments make almost live position possible so you're always able to plan the proper route. Just look at the latest scopes from Bushnell too. They make it easy to spot things that are a great distance away, while still being resistant to the wear-and-tear of sea life. Then consider electronics. Boating was always a dangerous endeavor in the past because help was almost non-existent unless you were in heavily traveled waters. Now, if you run into trouble, you can use your ship's radio to contact the Coast Guard and organize your own rescue. You may even have your exact position from the ship's GPS. What more could you want in safety?

All of these developments were made for one reason. They help keep sailors alive. The latest in gear makes it much easier to navigate and survive while away from civilization on the great blue waters of the world.
