Marketing Of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be seen in theatres in June 2009. The first premiere will be seen in Tokyo followed by UK on 19th of June and USA on 24th of June 2009.

This is the second movie of the series of Transformers; the first that was released in 2007 was a big hit. Transformers 2007 was overall a great success for all the crew of the movie.

Michael Bay is again the director of the movie with successful executive producer Steven Spielberg. These two names are very popular in the motion picture industry and has been an inspiration for other directors, producers and screenwriters.

The movie was shot with IMAX cameras and the release from IMAX will get additional scenes. IMAX release will be different from regular theatre version that would feature robot-fighting sequences. In August 2008, Orci told the press about IMAX 3D footage. This was altogether a different claim from the official announcement of IMAX. IMAX did not announce any use of the 3D technology on the project. Michael Bay told later that IMAX was easier to use than stereoscopic cameras, and added 3D work is done by taking the help of his “old school” filmmaker.

The marketing of the movie through Hasbro’s Revenge of the Fallen toy line was impressive. There were many new molds and old characters with different colour schemes. The toys were released in the market after specific time intervals to keep the interest of the people alive. A few of the toys will not be released until August 2009. There is news on the development of a video game based on the film by Luxoflux. Nike, Inc, M&M, General Motors, Youtube and many other product placement partners, does the product placement.

Bay had a very clear-cut strategy on Transformers 2. He started a misinformation campaign to keep people guessing about the movie sequences. He wanted to increase debate over what robots will be seen in the film. He liked to throw fans off from the story of the film and he had done it successfully.

There were different press releases, and interviews in which Bay and other officials gave different statements about the inclusion of new robots, and the changed characters of old robots. Bay told that Megatron will not come back to life and then later on it was confirmed by Orci that Megatron would be seen in different form (tank). There had been rumours about the movie since the day one. What Bay was looking for, was achieved by him sensibly. When people had seen the trailer of the movie, their temptation to see the movie increased tremendously.

Recently, a list of the robots that will be seen in the movie is published that tells the names and the function, the robots will perform in the movie. Not to be surprised, Megatron is not present in the list that is against the claim of his inclusion in the movie. All credit goes to the marketing campaign of the movie. The strategy and approach was good, and it is speculated to bring the desired results for Bay and the teammates.
