Messages Of Life From Death Row – Spirituality In Prison

Although I have yet to read the book "Messages of Life From Death Row" by Pierre Pradervand, I found the following review and I will be looking for it on my next visit to a book store. If you have read it, or get a chance to read it, please let me know what you think.

(PRNewsChannel) / October 19, 2010 / GENEVA / 'Messages of Life from Death Row' (ISBN 1439235600) by sociologist and activist Pierre Pradervand features correspondence between the author and a death row inmate who contends he is innocent.
Accused of murder in 1986, Houston native Roger McGowen was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death. According to McGowen, he confessed to the crime to protect his brother Charles, the true culprit who shot the victim in the midst of a botched robbery. McGowen claims that the police misled him as to the possible punishment for the crime and typed his confession for him. Imprisoned and awaiting execution, McGowen began corresponding with the author and sharing his views on compassion, forgiveness, freedom and unconditional love. Moved by McGowen's story, the author combined the letters with narrative commentary stressing how some of the worst conditions on the planet can be used to grow spiritually, reach happiness and express unconditional love and forgiveness.
Roger shows that you can be a leader for positive change no matter who or where you are, Pradervand says. If an innocent man on death row for over 20 years cannot only forgive those responsible but also live a life of meaning, significance and love for all, then we all truly live in a world of infinite possibilities and can do more than we are currently doing to create a world that works for all.
The book argues against the practice of capital punishment citing examples of mistaken identity and failed DNA testing that the author claims led to the death of innocent men and women. Intended to inform and inspire, the book contrasts McGowen's insights on love and forgiveness with his stark living conditions on Texas death row.
'Messages of Life from Death Row' is available for sale online through Amazon and other channels.
