Metal Pressing Equipment
As a part of the press work, one of the main components that is used to create a pressing is the die, also known as the tool die. The accuracy of the metal pressing created depends to a great extent on the quality of the die. The die is actually placed between the two vertical arms of the press machine. In most press work machines, the die is mounted on the top upper vertical arm of the press, while the lower vertical arm of the press contain the component that needs to be worked on. As a part of the punching or stamping process, the metal sheets are worked as one lot and the subsequent sheets are inserted between the upper arm and the lower arm either by manual or by an automatic conveyor means. The sheet metal that is used as the raw material is actually made out of different types of materials. The type of material depends on the requirement of the customer. Some of the commonly used metals for pressing work include stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, copper and bronze. The capacity of the press decides the volume of sheets that can be stamped out in a day. The capacity of the press in turns depends on the hydraulic pressure that is developed to operate the presses. The press machine capacities are actually specified in terms of tones such as 5 ton press, 10 ton pres and there are also presses with capacities of 500 tones. Most metal pressing units start with low capacity presses and once they establish the customer base, they ramp up their capacities to meet the increased production demands. Some metal pressing units also get involved in the manufacturing of the tool or the die that is used to create the metal pressing. The tool should be manufactured under strict supervisory control and with very little tolerance.
