Mexican Airline Interjet Consolidates Its Position In The Cuba Holidays Market
According to a press release issued by Cuban tour operator Havanatur S.A the Interjet delegation was headed by Jose Luis Garza, president of the carrier who outlined the airline’s strategic goals in Cuba during a conference held at the Melia Cohiba hotel in Havana. This meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) and Mexico’s embassy in the Cuban capital as well as other executives from various Cuba hotels and travel agencies. With a standardised fleet of A320 aircraft, Interjet serves 39 routes in 27 destinations in Mexico and the Americas include destinations like Guatemala City in Guatemala, San Antonio in Texas and most recently Havana, Cuba’s capital city. Headquartered in Mexico City the company has the mission “to provide excellent and safer air transportation, at a fair price through a substantial increase of efficiency and productivity of all its resources that ultimately benefits our customers”, as published in its website. The airline’s new set of flights to Cuba which began operating in August 2011 are expected to increase air capacity and boost the number of Mexicans booking Cuba holidays. Historically, Mexico has been one of the major countries sending tourists to Cuba on account of its geographic proximity and cultural links with the island. Over time the solid existing historic, commercial and cultural ties between Cuba and Mexico have generated high passenger traffic between both nations which are connected with each other from the ancient times when Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes sailed from Cuba in the 16th century to conquer the Aztec world. Ever since then, both lands have been allies in many ways sharing similar features which include the same language and a contagious revolutionary spirit. During their stay in Havana, Interjet’s executives met with Havanatur S.A’s representatives setting the basis for the establishment of a commercial alliance between both firms. Havanatur is a 30-year old tour operator that specialises in providing outstanding Cuba holidays through a network of consolidated travel agencies worldwide.
