Mind Mapping Is Like Creating A 3 Star Dish

Most people look at mindmaps as being a nice picture of some information. They see the art of the map. The end result is an image. The end result is art.

Business people look at mind mapping as a cold/logical approach to visualizing all the information they have to deal with. They create the map using the rules and directions of mind mapping, or perhaps more general visual mapping. They simply create the map: Just follow the steps and you are fine...

The end result is an overview of the information. Sometimes it looks like a real image, often is it just a diagram of schematic overview.

I truly believe mind mapping is more than following the rules of mind mapping that Mr. Tony Buzan writes about in his books. Mindmaps should not be images which are nice to look at. The moment that happens, the image takes control and the information becomes less important.

The moment you create mindmaps using rules, you are only writing the same information in a different format. For most people this is a nice way they find (more) answers. Watching the same information in a different overview triggers your brain - the information 'changed'. I believe this helps you to get much more from your information. The visual map (or mindmap) helps you to discover more more or sometimes hidden information.

Move away from the systems of mind mapping. Stop using the tools and techniques of mind mapping the next time you mindmap.

I want you to really take the information and create a map using the Art in stead of the cold Science.

This doesn't mean you have to start drawing and using many colors. It can be done with just one color and a few images. The Art is not in the images. The Art comes from you creating an overview where the information is located where it should be, not where the rules tell you to place it.

Think of yourself as being a Chef in a 3 star Michelin restaurant. Do they cook using recipes? NO!!! They follow their taste and feelings. They create dishes. They CREATE.

And that is what makes their dishes worth much more than a normal dish in a normal restaurant.

Apply this principle on your maps as well. I am certain your overviews will look more appealing to you and you get more, much more from them.
