Mnemonic Techniques For Accelerated Learning

Hi! In this particular article we're gonna go take a closer look at mnemonic techniques which origin can be found in ancient times. They were created by Romans and used very often in their lives. he main idea is to develop a number - key image system to put new information in an established, well remembered position in our mind. We have short and long-term memory and when we use a mnemonic-technique we create a kind of database/library somewhere between two of these.

Imagine that you have a private library containing all your knowledge. When you need to information on your body structure you check the biology shelf, when you need a shortcut used in one of programs which you use at work you take a book from informatics knowledge shelf. On the other hand when you've got a new information you simply put it on a new shelf or on a shelf with other books with similar subject. Sounds good? If no then realize that in a process of remembering something using mnemonic techniques you simply bypass the short-term memory. When you learn for an exam this is the place where all the information go - remember and forget after tomorrow's test. But when you use a mnemonic technique you put this information on specific, well known positions in which you'll find/see them the next time you gonna think "What I've putted on that orchid flower standing by the window?" Because instead of shelve you can use object as in mnemonic technique called "Roman Room" - generally you create a house or a room in your imagination with as much objects (image-links) as you want and then link stuff with it. For example if you want to remember to read a book before going to bed simply put it on bed in your roman room. There's a link to a complete walk-through for this one at the end of this article so if you want to know how to perform it you know where to start. As for other mnemonic memorization techniques there is a chain method and memory table method.

The chain method is very simple - you just imagine first element you need to remember performing an action on second element, then second element on third, then third on fourth etc. The big plus of this technique is that actually you just need to remember first element and all the others follows "animation" you've created in your mind.

Memory table is a little bit more advanced as it involves creating a table with 100 elements joined with number. Example

01 (zero/o one) - Zombie Zero

02(zero/o two) - Zodiac Double (a bar or pub ;))

03(zero/o three)- Zet Three (a guy called ZeT instead of Zed, in a matter of a fact he have this name tattooed on his forehad)

o4(zero/o four)- Zephir Four (big robot, F because ph is read as F)

05(zero/o five)- Zoo Five (Zoo park in district five? all the animals have a furry pattern with number 5 on head? it's up to you!)

06(z/o six)- ZeuS Six (you know... that guy throwing with lightnings hear and there)

07(z/o seven) Zero Seven (a very dangerous floor? level? access code?)

08(z/o eight) OH eight (instead of O Hour)

09(z/o nine) Onion (can be old one)

So to remember this positions I'd create a story in my mind in which I would see a pissed of Zombie Zero getting first into Zodiac Double bar and starting to chat to this ZeT guy. The talk doesn't go so good so they end up on the street thrown out by Zephir Four cleaning robot which after taking care of them goes to Zoo Five to enjoy. While watching weird-pattern-five animals he enjoys and think about how beautiful word gets. In the mean time above him there's Zeus, a good of six lightnings choosing a new cloud for his room. The cloud with number Zero Seven is already taken by some other gods so he gets nervous and fly high, high and find another cloud, but this one makes him say "OHell, this one is to height!". Even though the cloud reacts to his presence and change into a big fluffy onion.

All right, maybe that story is crazy but it's just example. The key is to make a table of ten elements with live images. Remember them good, then practice by repeating it hundreds of times in a manner (first position- last position, every second from first and last). When you know it perfectly and operate fast it's ready to serve you well. If you want to remember something simply imagine it on one of the elements from above template. If you have a history lesson simply read it, split into 10 parts with key word for each one. Then join each of these word with position in table so when it comes to answer on test or simply tell story to the public you just go first element - entrance of the dragon, second element - the dragon slides on the ice, third element - the dragon fall into cave. As long as you're able to say a few words about each of the sentences you're cool to speak for twenty or forty minutes without one note or piece of paper! Quite amazing, isn't it? There's one very important thing you need to know!

When putting/joining anything in your imagination the more you use it the better. The stronger and funnier emotions a scene you created wakes up the better you'll remember it!
