If you have felt an overwhelming urge to free your western apparel from the recesses of your closet (or attic), you might be wondering about the best way to rock things like cowboy boots and pearl-snap button shirts in a contemporary context (i.e., not the range, the rodeo, or high atop a mechanical bull). Just about anybody can wear a pair of cowboy boots, after all, but that doesn't mean that everyone has the same finesse needed to put together an appropriate outfit. The key lies in starting small. That means you can't just show up for work one day dressed head to toe in western wear. Here are a few examples of ways you can begin sprinkling bits of western wear into your everyday wear:
* Cowboy boots with skirts and dresses - You can try a short, slim skirt that hits at about the mid-thigh or a longer flowing skirt with a hemline below the knees, paired of course, with cowboy boots. Similarly, a basic sundress works well when paired with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. You can dress an ensemble up or down to whatever degree you wish.
* Jeans and cowboy boots - This pairing is classically western. If you want to wear tapered or slim fitting pants, tuck them into the boots. If your pants are boot cut, wide-leg or flared, on the other hand, then wear them over the boots. * Wear your cowboy hat with jeans and other casual outfits. Don't wear your busiest Hawaiian shirt and try to top it off with a cowboy hat; rather, let the hat be the distinguishing feature and keep the rest simple. * Suits with boots - Avoid wearing your boots with a formal tuxedo unless the whole ensemble is western wear (and let's hope you're going to a western themed wedding). With a suit, however, it is entirely appropriate to wear a shiny pair of cowboy boots. Scuffed boots aren't an option for this particular outfit, as you need to make sure that your boots can live up to the expectations set by the formality of the suit. * Embroidery, embroidery, embroidery - Decorative stitching can adorn just about any item of clothing or accessory - shirts, pants, skirts, cowboy boots, belts, hats, handbags, and so much more. Select a western apparel item or two adorned with embroidered designs and mix them in with some of your "tamer" items to provide some contrast.
