More Options For Travellers Planning Cuba Holidays In 2012

The number of tourists booking Cuba holidays in 2012 is expected to grow by 7.5 per cent this year in comparison to 2011. For this the island nation has been preparing ahead and has been implementing an “Integral Plan for Tourism Development” comprising the refurbishing of existing hotels in Cuba, the construction of new ones and the creation of new visitor attractions as well as the repair of roads and other supporting infrastructure. The construction of a causeway to connect the archipelago Jardines del Rey to the paradisiacal key, Cayo Sabinal is one of the major investments to be executed during the year.

Altogether Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Romano and Cayo Sabinal offer excellent conditions for fishing off Ciego de Avila and Camaguey’s northern coast with spectacular diving sites. The Caribbean country has more than 70 species of coral and 900 species of fish. Today the endangered areas have recovered. Preservation moves have rescued jeopardised stretches of coral reef and large areas have been designated marine reserves and sea aquariums. With the new road linking Jardines del Rey with Cayo Sabinal, considered among one of Cuba´s most beautiful natural marvels, tourists will have easier access to stunning diving sites and pristine fishing areas, as a complement to their sea and sand Cuba holidays.

These backstage actions will add to several front stage marketing efforts carried out by Cuban tourists’ boards working hard to promote Cuba trave land increasing the island’s tourism competitiveness. For more than a year, the Ministry of Tourism’s advertising campaign, “Autentica Cuba” has been launched in many cities across the globe while some other presentations introducing Cuba’s attributes have been carried out by Cuban hotel chains and travel companies. In 2011, the island’s tourism authorities and entrepreneurs participated in every major international travel fair and exhibition outside the country such us ITB, WTM, TTG and FITUR. In order to attain 2012’s plan of 2.9 million visitors, Cuba will keep and even increase their presence in this type of events.

The newly-born year will also witness the opening of new Cuba hotels in low-room-density holiday destinations such as Trinidad. A 5-star hotel is expected to open in this heritage town with the tentative inauguration date being awaited for around mid 2012. Funded with Cuban and French capital it will have 52 rooms and will be located at La Popa neighbourhood.
