Multiplication Facts That Are Fun For Numbers One To Twelve

Fast factoring of multiplication problems can be done by memorizing the times tables or by using some well known tricks.

One is an easy number to multiply with other numbers, as any number multiplied by one will remain the same.
9x9=18 and 9+9=18, the same is true for all multiples of two; simply add the number to itself for the same answer.

For the number three, a quick trick can help check the accuracy of your work, but will not speed up the multiplication.
Multiples of the number three will always add up to three, six, or nine as seen in the following example: 2x3=6 and 3+3=6, 3x12=36 and 3+6=9.

The number five is perhaps the easiest multiple next to zero, one, and ten.
Five has multiples that are exactly five numbers lower or higher than the next or last factored multiple, for example: 0x5=0, 1x5=5, 2x5=10, and the addition proving this is, 0+5=5, 5+5=10, and 10+5=15.

Six has a fun trick for multiplication with even numbers.
Take a look at the example, 6x2=12, and 6x8=48, and see how the answer will always end in the same number as what is multiplying six.

With more than one crafty trick, nine is the next number with memorization techniques for multiplication. One can factor what the number being multiplied to nine is by first using multiplication by ten and then subtracting the multiplier from that answer, 9x3=10x3-3.

Nine has another quick trick as shown in the example, 9x3=27, where 3-1=2 and 2+7=9, the answer is 27; simply revert back to the previous number and then count up to nine.
Learning the multiplication tables of ten is as simple as adding a zero to whatever is being multiplied: 10x2=20, 10x9=90, and 10x15=150.

For the number eleven, all one need to is to write the double of the multiplied number (for all whole numbers up to nine); for example, 2x11=22 and 5x11=55.

For the numbers ten through eighteen, another multiplication trick can be applied with the number eleven. The sum of the number multiplying eleven is written between the actual number, 11x17=1 (1+7) 7, 187

The number twelve has a multiplication trick that requires recall of the multiplication table for ten.First multiply a number by ten by adding a zero, and then multiply the number by two; add them together to arrive at the answer: 12x5=60 and (10x5) + (2x5) =60.

Recall of the multiplication tables is more accessible in real life and during examination time with multiplication tricks and tips that go beyond flash cards.
