My Child Has Adhd - Taking A Positive Approach

If your child has ADHD it is not the end of the world! My father always said 'look on the bright side',so we are going to follow his advice in this article. First of all, there are a lot of famous successful people out there who actually made it with ADHD and how ! Look at the following examples and these are just a few but they all had ADHD. If your child has ADHD, just remind him or her about that and give examples of people that he or she knows or worships as a sports hero, singer or actor so that they can better relate to this fact.

The second thing to bear in mind is that ADHD children often have a lot of talent. They may have some learning problems or inattentiveness but it is good to stress the positives. ADHD children can be funny, artistic, creative, inventive, sensitive, loving and exuberant. You can stress that some ADHD people have some difficulties but they have a lot going for them as well. Their brains just work in a different way. That goes for adults ADHD just as much as children ADHD.

How can you help your child in the best possible way? Your influence and the way you approach his behaviour problems will be under scrutiny by your child. Remaining calm, loving, firm, sticking to plans, routines and rules or behaviour contracts are really the best way to help if your child has ADHD. You are doing what all the experts tell us so that should encourage you. They all agree that medication has its limits and will not cure the condition but it may help with some of the symptoms but then again it may not. Behaviour modification and the way you interact with your child is crucial as you are the role model. If you have ADHD yourself, it can make it easier in one way but in other ways it can be difficult as you tend to multi task.

Making changes in your family's diet is a great way to help your ADHD child and indeed the whole family. This is a great positive step forward and you should be proud of it if you can reduce the consumption of processed food full of additives and go for fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs and wholemeal stuff.

The best way you can help if your child has ADHD is to make an informed decision about what medication he should take. If you opt for ADHD drugs, your child may suffer from nasty side effects and there are certain risks which you do not want to expose him to. You have to make the choice but your choice will have to be justified in making your child's life and experience a positive one.
