My Public Speaking Teaching Resources

I wanted to take the time to share with you my public speaking teaching resources. These are great because they really can help you conquer your public speaking fears and general flaws. I found the best way to learn is by doing. There is just no other way to properly learn. Standing in front of the mirror giving a speech or in front of your family, isn't really doing it.

I think the best resource anyone has available to them is the Toastmasters organization. It is a non-profit group that works to help people improve their public speaking skills. It is a very supportive group that tries to encourage people to learn. It is a learn by doing program, but you're allowed to go at your own pace.

After you join you will be given their manual. They try to make you go through planks to hit on certain skill points. This is the initial manual you get. After you complete this, you can move onto more advanced skills.

The Ice Breaker: This is the first speech you will give. It is you introducing yourself to the group. This is how the group determines your strong and weak points.

organize Your Speech: This speech works on concepts of organizing your speech around a speech outline.

Get to the Point: Give a speech that centers around a clearly stated goal.

How to Say It: You're going to focus on your choice of words, sentence structures and rhetorical devices.

The Body Speaks: You will give a speech where you complement words with your body language.

Vocal Variety: Give a speech where you use different variations of pitch, pace, power and pauses.

Research: You're going to give your first speech on a topic you were forced to research.

Visual Aids: You're going to do your first speech with visual aids.

Persuade with power: A speech that uses power to persuade the audience.

Inspire: This is the last speech in the first manual you will get. You're going to put all your skills together and inspire the audience.

You might be thinking at this point "how do I give speeches like this?" The manual has all the information you need to follow. Plus, in the group, you will be assigned a mentor to help you through all your speeches.
