Everyone has sometime or other gone through the McDonalds drive thru and received the wrong order. You asked for a Chicken sandwich and got the Filet Mc Fish instead. You asked for a big order and they forget the fries and apple pie. If you asked for a Big Mac and got a Whopper, then they really made a mistake, or you went through the wrong fast food restaurant drive thru. Corporations like McDonalds want to minimize these mistakes and increase their employees performance. They do this with a training strategy that evaluates employees performance through the customers point of view. They are called McDonalds mystery shoppers. The look like, talk like, and act like real customers to evaluate a real live fast food experience in the customers eyes. Only they are not real customers. They are McDonalds mystery shoppers and they are evaluating the burger flopping, headset wearing employee who is taking their order. McDonalds mystery shoppers keep it the McDonalds way. Every employee must graduate from an extensive training program before the can touch the fryer or ask someone if they want to super size that. However, McDonalds wants to make sure that their training is being implemented everyday with every customer. McDonalds mystery shoppers puts their employees training to the test so every hamburger flipper and super size pusher gives every customer the best dining experience possible. McDonalds mystery shoppers hit the fast food chain from every angle. They secret shop them by going inside or mystery shop them by driving through the drive thru. The drive thru is a special concern because of the famous errors association with it. While inside they are face to face with the employee and environment. In both areas McDonalds mystery shoppers are evaluating friendliness, accuracy, and of course, speed. It is fast food you know. They will also report on the restaurants cleanliness in the dining room, the front counter, and even the bathroom. Again, McDonalds mystery shoppers act just like any McDonalds customers. To see how an employee reacts to an outraged customer, McDonalds mystery shoppers will set up a scenario where they are tick off about something. It could be about getting the wrong order or about a bad French fry. Whatever the scenario, the employee is being evaluated on how he or she handled a tough situation. McDonalds mystery shoppers get paid to eat. Again, they appear just like every customer so they have to eat. And it is for free. Not only free, they get paid to eat. They order Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, Chicken McNuggets, and Happy Meals. But it is more then a free lunch and there are strings attached. They must report back to the hiring manager with their evaluation of the restaurant. Now the property manager can use the evaluations and recommendations to make changes with the restaurants performance. So the next customer that comes in will be treated even better than the last. McDonalds mystery shoppers make up just a small portion of the mystery shoppers or secret shoppers community. Many other industries use secret shopping as a way to increase sales performance.
