Navigating Manila

Manila is the major city of the Philipines, a
Country consisting of islands in Southeast East Asia. Manila is both a city, and a broader metropolitan region that includes Manila city as well as sixteen different municipal localities. Manila city is the second biggest city in Philipines, after Quezon city. Quezon city is additionally part of Metro Manila, and is the former capital of Philipines. If you look at a detailed street map of Manila, you can see that these two towns form the center of Metro Manila.

Manila is a coastal port city, lying on Manila Bay. It is the chief sea port of the Philipines. Most of Manila city sits on alluvial deposits from the Pasig River, with some land that is reclaimed from the sea. Manila is in all respects a sea city, and its Pacific ambience and muggy air will remind you of that all the time.

Manila city has a total population of 1,660,713 all squeezed into a small area of 38.55 square kilometers. This means that Manila is one of the most very populous locations on the planet with 43,079 folks per square km. If we include all of Metro Manila the population balloons to an amazing 11,553,427. The overall population density of the Metro area is significantly lower at 12,550 folks per square kilometer. Compare that with Tokyo's population density of 10,087 folks per square kilometer. Since Tokyo is not an individual city but instead a urban area like Metro Manila, the final density of Tokyo and Manila are comparable.

Metro Manila actually is huge, and every one of its cities on its own makes up an enormous city. Manila city by itself is divided into sixteen geographical districts. All of these sixteen districts has its own unique features and flavours and are interesting to explore and get an understanding of. Intramuros is the positioning of old Manila, with a historic flavour. Binodo surrounds the Chinatown area. Ermita and Malate are trendy areas where many Western hotels and higher class shopping centers are found. And the areas of San Miguel and Pandacan are the seat of the capital's central authority buildings and the President's official residence. With all of these varying and exotic local areas, it's easy to pass a few days looking around Manila before you travel to your next destination.
