The United States Navy Seals are a special operational force under the United States Navy. They exist to carry out the most elite operations, and can be likened to a SWAT team of a police force. The training courses, as well as the missions of Navy Seals are among the most difficult, which has lead to a reputation for greatness and an ability to accomplish any mission. Navy Seals have gained a lot of recognition, not just in the military but in the world as well.
The history of Navy Seals goes back to around 1941, when a unit was formed called “Amphibious Scouts and Raiders”. The people in this unit were trained in the same skills required of modern Seals. Eventually, they became the Combat Swimmer Reconnaissance units, the most elite swimmers in the Navy. They were even called “Frogmen” because of their uncanny swimming abilities. Some were recruited from free divers in California. In 1961, the official Navy Seals were established. To join, you must be in top physical shape, and be mentally strong enough to put up with grueling training.
Navy Seal’s operations usually involve unconventional warfare, or situations that do not usually present themselves. Guerilla warfare is common, and Navy Seal teams will frequently find themselves separated from other teams, in difficult and intimidating situations. In times of crisis, the Navy Seals can be recruited for counter terrorism operations, including direct action and hostage rescue. Other times they will carry out reconnaissance missions, gathering information to allow for a full-fledged strike.
The Navy Seals are a proud and important branch of the United States Navy. They have been directly involved in countless wars and conflicts – from the Vietnam War to Desert Storm to Iraq. Their elite training has allowed them to carry out the most sensitive missions.
