Nelly Furtado Career Relaunched
Nelly's talents were noticed in a talent show in Toronto by Gerald Eaton (aka Jarvis Church) and Brian West of The Philosopher Kings.. They helped develop a record and landed a record deal with DreamWorks Records in 1999. The album was and was Whoa, Nelly!, which was released in October 2000 to much success and fanfare. In 2002, the album got four Grammy nominations in 2002. The single "I'm Like A Bird" won the Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. On September 20, 2003, before the release of Folklore, Nelly Furtado’s second album, She gave birth to her first child, a son, Nevis. In November 2003, Folklore was released with singles Forca, Try, and Powerless (Say What You Want). However, the album did not achieve the same commercial success of here debut album. This could be due to lack of marketing and the more electic nature of the songs in the album After DreamWorks Record closed in 2006, Nelly Furtado signed a recording contact with Geffen Records. In 2006, Nelly release her third album titled Loose. This album was more mature and more "diva" like than the first two The album has been a commerical success with three hit singles No Hay Igual, Promiscuous, and Maneater.
