New Advances In The Internet: Making Business Faster

It used to be that people thought the only companies affected directly by technology were those crazy dot-commers out in California. Then the internet became a household name, and email all but replaced other forms of business correspondence that wasn't verbal. The combination of devices that provided internet and cell phone capabilities have allowed businesspeople to travel around the world and the country while staying wired to their bosses (and family) back home, and decisions can be made in the blink of an eye for companies now thanks to the rate at which information is traded.

Instead of tucking into a hotel room far away and wondering how things are at home, one only needs a laptop and a wireless internet connection to catch up with the family while preparing the final touches for any number of presentations or projects. Best of all, it's all possible far away from the office.

But as fast as technology has been growing and as incredibly acclimated the contemporary worker has become to the digital office, there is always room for improvement. Business succeeds if it works the fastest, and sometimes your usual T1 or Wi-Fi connection just isn't reliable enough. Enter a new technology. A combination of two elements, WiMax networks and 4G technology, is set to turn the business world upside down. Not only can business work everywhere, it can work at a speed that was previously unheard of.

A little bit of backstory: regardless of if you're connecting to the internet through a broadband cable or a Wi-Fi router, the network you're connecting to is known as 3G, which up until now, was the fastest speed possible for the internet. But a number of phone companies are starting to roll out services on a new, faster network--one that actually provides service for wireless data that runs circles around the quick refresh service used by such high-tech and graphic-intensive gadgets like the iPhone. With 4G, it will be possible to hold video conferences or display any video footage with minimal interruption.

But the internet, as helpful as it is to have access to on a cell phone, isn't meant to be viewed on a screen that's a few inches by a few inches wide. That's why it is better to combine 4G transfer speed and reliability for video with a network system that's fast already. Enter WiMax. While WiMax is available in a few cities around the United States, most people, even savvy business and technology workers, aren't entirely familiar with it. With WiMax, wireless internet is changed, and the current model is rendered slightly obsolete. Instead of worrying about staying close enough to a router that provides the signal, WiMax uses towers much in the same way the cell phone company does to ensure that no matter where you are, if you turn on your computer, you have internet access.

Pairing these two incredible technologies together offers a businessperson limitless possibilities for what can be accomplished outside the confines of the office environment. On a business trip but need to have a video conference with the office, or a client in a faraway country? You don't have to head to a business center to pull it off, and you don't have to worry about a shoddy connection ruining the crucial real-time communications. The new technology, the new step in the internet, means that it's all possible faster and more reliable than ever before.
