New Fantasy Paperback Book For Children.

A new book by Edlesborough fantasy author Ian O’Neill looks set to be a big hit with the teenage audience. The Time Traveller’s Assistant is Dunstable-born Ian’s very first printed fantasy publication and he will be signing copies at the Leighton Buzzard Library at 10.30am on May 8. Ian, 55, of Wren Walk, said: "I’ve lost
count of the number of work conferences I’ve been in where I go off into some dream world or work out a plot for a completely new idea." So I thought it was about time I put some of these odd concepts down on paper.

I was raised in the 1960s and was brought up on Doctor Who and yes I did watch the Daleks hiding
behind the couch. But it was unmissable TV and it created a life long enchantment with time travel. Ian started off writing for a hobby about five years ago. The salesperson, who works for a Lincoln-based consumer electronics firm, had always imagined seeing his labour in publications and it was his lady Carole who in the end persuaded Ian to self publish his latest book. Ian said: "My wife read the fantasy book and said you have to get this published."

A little bit of money, which was left to Ian after his Mother died, funded the venture. And he used Authorhouse publishing in Milton Keynes to transform his aspiration into a reality. The Time Traveller’s Assistant is made for the 9-12 age groups and centres round the everyday life of Jimmy First, a 14-year-old lad, who
has cerebral palsy Life is pretty mean to Jimmy until he meets Henry Crumble, the owner of a watch repair shop. After the meeting, Jimmy discovers that Henry has a hidden secret and the quest to find out what this is leads to Jimmy going on the most astounding journey — one that takes him into the future towards an intriguing meeting with destiny.

Ian said: "The publication without doubt has a feel good aspect to it. The upstart is that the main character Jimmy realises that his cerebral palsy is an element of him, not all of him. "He discovers this as his voyage takes him into the future which makes it possible for him to look back at his life."

During his research into writing the paperback he met the boss of the cerebral palsy centre in Flitwick, Sally Aspinall. She was full of approval for Ian's work and said it was a fantastic book. The acquaintance has now led to Ian promising to donate 50 per cent of the income of the sale of each paperback to the centre.
