New Reggae Buddhafunk Redefines Reggae
Other notable bands are Rebellution and Mystic Roots both from So Cal as well. This new reggae music seems to incorporate elements of rock, reggae and hip-hop, but I found my ears gravitating towards the new reggae mix from Buddhafunk that incorporated elements of funk, jazz and r&b along with the reggae and rock component. I became such a fan that I went to check out some of the bands other reggae cd’s and came across another great song called Zion Come My Way (off their sophomore release Reggae Rock Hop) It has a sublime style rhythm with a soulful r & b music feel and an epic guitar solo that makes your hair stand up on your spine. The production is clear and crisp, with chimes, shimmers and beats that transport you to a new and ethereal place. Its feel good music, happy music and no doubt will continue to catch on like fire as more people are exposed to the new reggae of Buddhafunk The white boy new reggae is here to stay and understandably so. Most people who actually listen to reggae are white, yet Buddhafunk is attracting a diverse fan base of african americans, latinos and asians. We attribute this to its diverse sound and deep grinding soul of the bass played by Latino Pancho Tomaselli. We look forward to the upcoming Enlightened Entertainment Tour which Buddhafunk will be headlining. The tour should span the West Coast, but we recommend you request shows from their website if your in the midwest or east coast. Good Vibes, Good people.
