New Year Goals : Seven Steps To Achievement Part 2/2

In the first part of this article, we set up the 3 first steps to achieve our promises.

Reminder:

1. Set up your measurable promises in every field of your life with clear deadlines
2. Truly believe YOU ARE ABLE to achieve those.
3. Get habits: chunk your promises down in small steps to reach every week. Every single day, take action

In this article, I give you the next 4 steps needed to accomplish any dream you could have in 2010.

4. Skills :

To take action, you need to have the skills for this action. If you do not have the skills, there are 2 ways :
· you learn the skills or
· you find someone else to do it

Here it is very important you develop in priority the skills you are good at. More than that : sometimes we do not know what we are good at, because we simply never tried, because we think we are not good at. Stop thinking and take action. What if you discovered you enjoy something you never ever tried. And that is the most important point, because if you enjoy it, you will quickly become very good at it.

(If you never taste chocolate, you cannot know if you like it.)

Develop what you are good at. Try/taste it and see if you like it / enjoy it

a. you are most likely to become better and better at what you like.
b. If you do not like it, you most probably will not be good at it. Outsource this part of the things you need to get done.

5. Have a plan
Read this quote I love : « if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. » it is so true. To reach your promises, you have to have a plan. This plan can be quite simple, but the most important is that this plan makes real sense to your aspirations and your dreams.
Success is not an absolute value, success is different for everyone, your own values are their only measure, not any system outside of you. Set you plan to your dreams.

6. Every single day take action
It is capital to take action every day towards your promises. Do not think too much before taking action. Do not let the "paralysis by analysis" take you.
Our education has taught us to be afraid to fail as failing is not permitted. Failing is forbidden.

You can fail as often as you need, that is all right.

"You can't measure success if you never failed...You can't spend any time worrying about whether you're going to win or lose - focus only on getting better (Steffi Graf) / For those that get it - no explanation is necessary. For those that don't - no explanation is possible." (Bob Richards)

7. Review your results
Every day, at the end of the day, review your results and correct your actions.

Think about this metaphor from John Assaraf: when a plane is flying, 99.9% of the time it is not going in the right direction. But every nanosecond, it corrects the direction towards it flys to reach its destination.

Do the same with your daily actions: check them:
· If your results are the ones you aimed to get, congratulate yourself and keep up the good work
· If the results are not those expected, make corrections to your actions so you have the results you desire
If you never get the results you aimed to, it is possible you set too far promises, not possible to attain in the period of time you took for them.

I hope this helps you accomplish what you desire for this year 2010.
