For the past several years hundreds of thousands of gamers all over the world have been persistently clicking their mice buttons peering at the disorder of their computer screens. The one to blame is not a new evil virus messing up shortcuts on the desktop, but quite harmless and absorbing games commonly called Hidden object games. Given the name, it’s easy to guess that their main target is to search for some hidden objects. A basic screenshot of a hidden object game is a nice (or not necessarily nice) room in a mess, where you have to find 10-15 objects in order to move up to the next level. Moreover you need to find them within a limited period of time. It may not sound very interesting but as you get down to play such a game, you forget about everything else; there’s only a room full of objects. Hidden object games are extremely popular. As of the day this article is being written, hidden object games occupy seven of the top ten positions in the list of the major casual games publisher, Bigfishgames. So, what’s the secret of their popularity? One of the elements of success is a nice story and a capturing plot. The first games of this genre were based upon some detective story, where level by level you were approaching the solution of a murder mystery or some other great secret. There are typical examples of detective plots in the Mystery Case Files line of games. Its idea was so successful that 4 games have already been released in this line. The legendary Hercule Poirot, an Agatha Christy’s character, is worth mentioning. There are 3 titles in the line of games based on Agatha Christy’s detective stories. Later on game designers started to release games with more varied stories. A bright example is Escape the Museum , where you have to get out of the museum destroyed by an earthquake, collecting on your way the most valuable exhibits. The Azada game features an original plot too. Here you must help Titus to get out of his uncle’s study. To do this you have to solve the mysterious Azada brain-twisters. Game designers approach the graphics of hidden object games very seriously, as much of the game’s success depends on the graphics. In most cases graphic design is of a very high quality, and is accomplished by some mood music. Many games can be called masterpieces of the game industry. Moreover most of the hidden object games are distributed as downloadable games, which means that you can download a game for free and play it for a limited time period. If you like it, you can buy a full version and play without any limits. If you want to take part in “peaceful” adventures or detect a mysterious murder but you don’t want to deal with complicated rules, then hidden object games will be an ideal choice for you.
