New Wave Of Question And Answer Platforms As Alternatives To Traditional Forums

Pioneered by the likes of Stackoverflow, this new type of platform simplifies and encourages quality information sharing.

Ever get sick of using forums to get answers to your random questions? Forums are a great place for community building and random chatter, however, you probably are well aware of the shortcomings when trying to find good quality information. Forums are often cluttered with random one line responses, and can be many levels deep in conversation often not pertaining to the original topic; so its very easy to get lost in the forums.

New platforms based on the stackoverflow model have been popping up around the web and have been gaining in popularity. These platforms discourage the forum style conversations. Here are some examples of this new platform style in use:

Have a question about snowboarding? Visit SnowboardingQA
Have a question about fixing your gadgets? Visit GadgetQA
Have a question about fitness or body buildingqa? Visit BodybuildingQA

These are based on a similar model as Stackoverflow. The idea is that conversation is strictly discouraged and users are encouraged to respond to questions with a precise answer - not with a comment (there is a feature for this) or another question, as is often the case with traditional forums. There is also a unique point-based system where users vote on quality questions and answers which makes it easier to search through the site. Users can post questions and provide answers as guests without having to register with the site. Also there is never any charge as it is based on an ad-revenue model.
