No Weight Loss Comfort In Comfort Food

Proper nutrition plays a beneficial role in dieting and weight loss. Being able to control our emotions as they apply to food is probably even more key though.

Most may realize, it is force of habit for certain people to eat because they are unhappy. However, we may not realize that lots of people eat in certain places because it ‘enhances’ the experience.

Who doesn't buy cotton candy when they go to the circus?

Comfort food has a nice name for what it really represents. These foods are commonly connected with some nostalgic or familial trigger which gives them a very powerful influence, especially if we are limiting our food options. Pay close attention to family associations, movie rituals, familiar restaurants, childhood habits, etc., that persuade you to eat even when you don’t feel hungry.

What is your body craving? Perhaps it isn’t food. If you are deriving ‘comfort’ from food, you need to find alternate outlets that fulfill those needs. Don't assume that food dependency is always about positive feelings. Sometimes we eat as a way to torture ourselves, or even to justify falling short on a weight loss program.

Aim to avoid situations that don't support your weight loss goals. This should make losing weight much easier in the long run. You should also find that by removing your dependence on food you are more fully satisfied.
