Nunavut

The name ‘nunavut’ means ‘our land’ and it was created as a result of a land settlement for an Aboriginal rights agreement between the Inuit and the Canadian government. One of the world largest islands Baffin Island is found in this territory. The Inuit who have lived here for thousands of years, chose Iqaluit to be their capital. Located on the east of Baffin island it is one of the largest centers in the territory.

Icebergs, wilderness and breathtaking scenery are a part of the Nunavut experience, as is the recognition that the Inuit who are now working not only outdoors but in business and government, were still nomadic and living off the land a few short decades ago. Nunavut attractions are truly beautiful and unique as the Inuit are skilled artisans and keepers of ancient traditions.

The polar regions hold many stunning sights such as the midnight sun and days of darkness caused by the high latitude. Much evidence of the last ice Age and the many lakes and rivers evoke a feeling of ancient ties. Another excellent feature of these northern territories is the always magical aurora borealis. From about December to April each year the northern lights as they are known, dance across the skies. A faint greenish glow or a golden steak, bring a warm and spiritual quality to the land below. This brilliant sight which can sometimes be seen from the northern parts of provinces below is created by solar winds flowing through the earth magnetosphere.

Canada North is the part of everyone in many ways and has much to offer.
