The term OLAP is originated from previously known OLTP which is online transaction processing. OLAP system employs multidimensional cube functionalities, known as OLAP cubes. These OLAP cubes include some numeric facts. These numeric facts are then categorized by using the dimensions. According to the experts, OLAP cubes produce the answers to the data queries in approximately .1% of time taken by the OLTP databases. The mechanism used by OLAP in facilitating the speedy processing is using the aggregations, built from fact table after altering the granularity of the tables on specific dimensions to aggregate the required data. OALP is implemented extremely by many business houses around the globe in order to speed up the business processes and simplify their information flow.
