Offering Maamoul During Holidays

Even though you can make and eat Maamoul anytime during the year, in Arabic countries, there are specific times when it is a must. This is especially true around holidays as these sweet desserts become mandatory rather than optional.

Other types of sweets like Ghraybeh and Karabij are not that popular. They have gained some popularity, but not as much as Maamoul. These cookies have become the tradition in so many occasions, they are not the first thing people think about when considering what to offer for dessert. They are usually preferred over Ghraybeh in most Arabic countries because they are made from semolina instead of sugar and are abundant in nuts. They are moderately sweet, which is most people’s preference. Other kinds of Arabic sweets have much more sugar in them and thus many people try to avoid them.

Maamoul can be made small or large, depending on what the person likes. There is no standard size for them. People who are more health conscious like them in small to medium size portions, while those looking for the most dense and strongest taste prefer them rather large.

It is mostly during holidays that these cookies along with other Mediterranean sweets are served to offered. Whatever the holiday is, these deserts constitute the main items to offer your visitors. This has been a long time tradition that is enforced every year. Some like to make them themselves to show their skills while others just buy them from stores nearby. No matter what you chose, it is a must to consume them and offer them to people who visit you during holidays. Maamoul is not the only dessert that is served in these occasions. Other types of confections like assorted Baklava are also popular. They can complement each other and be served together. Some people might prefer the former while others might enjoy the latter more.

Traditionally, both cookies and pastries are offered during holidays. Cookies are much easier to make and bake at home, and thus most people who like the notion of handmade and homemade desserts prefer to make their own cookies and offer it to their visitors. Fewer people chose to bake pastries because there are more involving and they require much more time and effort as well as skills. Both are very popular however and no matter which what you chose to make, you visitor are sure to like them. They are both sweet and fulfilling. Some people even try to bake both cookies and pastries at home, but that would take considerably more time than doing just one kind.

In the Arab world, both Maamoul and Baklava are enjoyed by most people because they are sweet and healthy at the same time. They are the preferred desserts because of these two fundamental criteria they possess. Most other desserts do not possess these two characteristics at the same time. In fact, most desserts are not healthy. It is the inclusion of nuts such in both of these two sweets that give them the healthy aspect which makes them largely attractive to many people.
