The Make More Live More Give More Revolution has started - but not without having its share of people going from “Great!” to “What the..?” and unmentionables in between.
What is the fuss all about, they say? And is it any good?
Ric and Liz Thompson of the hugely successful Healthy Wealthy nWise and Small Business CEO Magazines started this revolution. Like with anything new, it will be met with a great deal of skepticism, doubt, excitement, worry, anxiety and all other emotions that come with.
Serial entrepreneurs like those two have had their years of dark times, downfalls, successes to now a stream of believers and a strong circle of colleagues who share the same vision. At this point in their careers, it’s already a matter of “Hey, who needs help?” and “Hmm, how can we give back?”
To help get future, would-be-wanna-be millionaires like myself started in the rough and tumble world of business – they’ve generously gone where no cutthroat business-people would go – share tricks of the trade and closely guarded secrets.
Make More, Live More, Give More is not a phrase they’ve just thrown around for publicity. There’s meat, fervor and a commitment. The Make More, Live More, Give More blog overflows with real steps to follow, truths that have been kept from us, lies perpetuated to derail childhood dreams and kill the burning desire to get out in the world and make it big.
Cut to the Chase
Make More - that seemingly scary first task you need to do. If it’s scary, then face your fears. It’s the only way to get past it. To do that, you have to have a clear mind to accept the “new,” “scary” thing to do.
But how on earth do we clear our heads, what with all the half-truths and lies flying about?
You can’t possibly get your business off the ground, that project you’ve nurtured ever since you wrote it down on that piece of napkin – if you’ve been told all this crap that scare your pants off.
Debunking the Pollyanna Myth
Liz talked about the Pollyanna Myth over at the Make More, Live More, Give More. It’s based on a movie about a girl who’s perpetually, irritatingly happy despite all the odds. It’s a myth because in the real world where you and I belong, no one’s really perpetually happy. No one can be. No one should be.
Can you imagine if I raised my son to believe that the world is made of candy, and that no one is going to harm him, upset him, and make him sad? I would be killing his chances at his first million, killing his chances at life, and killing his soul. I allowed him to feel the pain from his first bruise – so he avoided the table’s corner the next time. I, like my son, am a real person and I take the good with the bad.
If I believed that I had to be positive, upbeat and happy all the time to become a successful person and entrepreneur, then:
1) My husband will leave me for putting on a freak show.
2) Customers, colleagues and clients will leave me for putting on a freak show.
3) And my son will get bullied because his mom is a freak.
Why do you think most kids are scared of clowns? I tell you it’s that ominous, menacing permanent smile!
What did I learn?
I choose to learn from other people’s lives, not because I don’t have the guts to fail, but because my life is too short to make all the mistakes myself.
Liz has been where I want to be, and back. And her message was clear to me. Emotions are what make you. It’s a built-in mechanism in the fast-paced business world that allows people to take risks or pass them up, to take the leap now or wait for better timing.
I’ll Make More if I take the first step to searching the right brand of truths.
I’ll Make More if I listen to how it’s been done successfully before.
My secret’s out. I trail Ric and Liz for my requisite tips on how to make it to my first million. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather take my cue from the entrepreneurs rather than the scary clown.
