On With The Green Floors Revolution: Appealing And Attractive Environmentally-friendly Flooring

To the uninitiated, the term “environmentally-friendly flooring” does not really translate to beautiful floors. That may be the case in the past, with certain flooring materials that while good for the environment, do not really hash well with aesthetics. Today's new environmentally-friendly flooring materials offer many pleasing designs that go well with your home's look and are made so that they can be versatile and be used in a variety of home applications.

Bamboo. This is perhaps the most well known out of all the environmentally-friendly flooring materials out in the market today. Bamboo has been touted as a great alternative for hardwoods, able to give the same durability and beauty without cutting a tree in the process. Bamboo's appeal also stems from the fact that it is a less expensive flooring option compared to hardwood, and can be maintained quite easily.

Bamboo is a grass that looks like wood flooring and grows rapidly, becomes large enough to harvest in three to six years. Its rapid growth inherently makes it a much sustainable product than most hardwood species. It can be installed the same way as hardwood flooring and is similarly dent resistant.

Reclaimed Wood. The use of reclaimed wood floors are on the rise. Having a reclaimed wood floor is perfect for that rustic look, and is certainly an option which carries its own history with it. And all the while, you know that no harm to the environment is done and you get to keep your beautiful floors.

Cork. Cork flooring provides a soft walking surface that also dampens noise and insulates against extreme temperatures while giving your floor an anti-microbial surface, it's a wonder why cork flooring hasn't hit it big in the general flooring market. Cork flooring comes from the barks of trees that regenerate after harvest, and even helps in the tree's growth – now that's one environmentally-friendly flooring.
