On The Scene: Mercedes-benz Fashion Week Swim Miami Spring 2009
I took a break from the runway to bring you the behind-the-scenes look at the swimwear extravaganza that ranged from skimpy bikinis to tribal printed fabrics. There were sequin-embellished pieces emblazoned by flashy colored stones in various hues. Floral prints adorned the catwalks, metallic sheens made a grand presence and a plethora of bold accessories were in sight.
The week was chocked full of A-list personalities adorning the hottest summer fashion to get a bird's eye view of what they would be donning this summer on the beach. Megan Good, arrived in true beauty and fashion, she commented on her love for the flash and bling of the Custo Barcelona show. Richie Rich of Heatherette fame, replied that he loved the sexiness of the girls during the Tibi show. Recording artist Craig David made an appearance; having just purchased a home on South Beach, he dropped in to take in some of the shows to satisfy his own love for fashion. The designs at Poko Pano got rave reviews from industry editors and journalist, who found the sleekness of the collection to be very classic.
The carefree, laidback exotic spirit of Brazil made a strong presence at this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Miami, it included the unveiling of OLO's silver and spiced rums amidst all the excitement of high fashion swimwear. OLO wanted to also become apart of the stylish feel this season providing a smooth tasting upscale drink that would be perfect for any trendy location and situation.
The Havaianas' tent was all a buzz and gave every fashion-goer an authentic taste of Rio style. One could saunter into their tent and have their own customized sandals/flip-flops made on the spot. The styles range from every color in the spectrum. Fun embellishments were provided from electric stars to raging butterflies! Frank Weil, Director of Marketing for Havaiana, stated “Their goal was to try and bring the beauty of Rio and Brazil to the foot of the world.”
Swim Week Miami began with a grandiose splash and held the riptide throughout the week. Bold color and flashy elegance dominated the catwalks, this summer the call for noticeable style will be bold, nouveau riche, and elegant!
