Once Upon A Rabbit

So how did Chewy the rabbit stumble upon our lives? It was about a year and a half ago when my girlfriend wanted a pet. It was around the time of her birthday. Her only pets were fishes which don't last very long, because they would die on her within 24 hours. I was kind of skeptical on getting her a pet, because of this. But I do like animals I just don't like taking care of them. I needed to find a pet that would be perfect for her. Something that is bigger than a fish, but requires less maintenance than a dog.

So we went to PetCo one cloudy day. We were really just looking around and not looking for anything in particular. As we were looking we came across this rabbit glass house. I called it that name, because I couldn't think of anything else to name it. There were lots and lots of different types of rabbits. Tan rabbits, off-white rabbits, dark rabbits, multi-colored rabbits, and so on. Most of the rabbits were just babies, but they were really playful. All of them except one lonely rabbit who didn't want to play with the rest of the pack. This black and white Holland Lop (floppy ears) rabbit was off doing its own thing. It was actually hiding in one of those plastic dome things. It was bigger than any of the other rabbits. Its behind was sticking out of the dome. Made me chuckle to myself. My girlfriend fell in love with it though. She really likes big fat fluffy things. We weren't sure if it was a baby or not, but she didn't care. We looked up a the price tag $99.99. My goodness, for a rabbit?!? Its not even a baby I think. There must be cheaper rabbits on Craigslist. But we were here. Spur of the moment type of deal. And there was a Manager's Special for all rabbits. $20 dollars off. Making it only $79.99 (excluding food of course). I guess for some of the reasons that it costs so much is because they neuter or spay the rabbit, depending on if it is male or female. The rabbits also have up to date shots. Still the price was high.

But she really wanted this rabbit. And it was close to her birthday so I had to obliged. So we asked one of the workers to open up the glass house so she can hold baby or not-baby rabbit in her arms. I have to admit it really was a cute rabbit and she looked perfect holding it. The worker told us that it was a male rabbit and told us how he would be the perfect. Probably because they needed to get rid of him, because he is so big. But that didn't matter. We were going to get him no matter what. So I was told the worker that we will take him. So the worker made a cardboard box for us to put the rabbit in for temporary use and gave us handy guide on how to properly take care of a rabbit. I am not sure if each animal in the store has a birth certificate with them, but rabbits do. So the worker was trying to find it. Unfortunately, there was a mix up and there was no birth certificate in sight. So we will really never know how old he is. We bought him, some food, and brought home our first pet. And the experiences we had with him so far has been very adventurous. If you want to be updated on the stories of Chewy the rabbit, please don't hesitate to visit my blog (it includes pictures).
