One Day I Woke Up And Decided Enough Is Enough I Don't Want To Be Large
It was the start of a new year and 6 months earlier my father had died and left me his watch which I could no longer wear as the bracelet was too small. I had enquired whether I could change the bracelet but because it was a vintage Omega, it wasn't an option and anyway I did not want to change anything about the watch which my father had worn for 35 years.
The only option for me was to diet else I would have to stop wearing the watch. So at the start of 2009 I decided enough was enough and it was spell to get healthily and trim. For starters I stopped drinking tea now this may look like a little thing but I was having 4 teaspoons of sugar in every mug and I was drinking 10 cups a day. Next I began eating breakfast which I hadn't done for 20 years. Every diet magazine told me the foremost meal during a day was breakfast and to devour little and often. So this is exactly what is started doing.
I ate 3 meals a day with a healthy snack in between of not more than 100 calories per snack. For the foremost meals I stuck to pasta, chicken and other low fat stuff. If I wanted a drink then I drank either water or Pepsi Max which has less than 1 calorie per can. I kept this up for 6 months and by june I was down to 182lbs without too much bother. I didn't do any special exercise I just curbed my eating practice which after the first two weeks became second nature.
My target weight when I started was 174lbs which I achieved in month seven. Now it is just about maintaining the target weight which is easier. Occasionally I have a blow out and visit some speedily food joint or have a large indulgent lunch but I have found that as long as these blow outs are at the most once a week, my weight is stable.
The perfect thing about being thin now is going out and buying clothes. Now instead of buying the cheap brands which I employed to cover my shape I now invest in top end designer clothes using the change I was previously spending on junk food. Last week I went out an blew £125 on a Ralph Lauren top which was a excellent feeling and made the past months prudent.
I can now find stuff in department store sales as my waist has shrunk from a size 38 to a 32 and I now by shirts with a neck size of 15 instead of 18. All in all it has been a long journey but totally worth the effort which has now become a way of life rather than a frightening challenge and yes every morning I am still eating breakfast!
