Open Letter To Speaker Nancy Pelosi

July 23, 2008 - by Gregory Franklyn

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

I'm writing to you this evening with a sense of disappointment in my heart. I'm hoping that I can say something here that might cause you to re-consider your adamant resistance to the consideration of impeachment against President George Bush and Vice President Dick Chaney. I admit that I'm not privy to all of the reasons you use the power of your office to prevent such consideration, but I can address a few that I know about.

One such reason might be that the current business of running the country will become hopelessly bogged down with these proceedings and the problems we face today are too important, too urgent to take a back seat to Congress exacting revenge on a bad Presidential Administration. Beyond that might be the appearance that you, personally, want to impeach the President and Vice President to gain power because you would then be next in the line of succession to the Presidency.

Much like our addiction to oil we, more often than not, attack the symptoms of our difficulties rather than their cause. In my own life, my doctor has prescribed simvastatin to help control and balance my cholesterol levels. It was his first line of defense! He also "Encouraged" me to cut down on fats and fried foods and "Encouraged" me to exercise more to bring my levels into balance. However, the cause of my problem was not the absence of simvastatin! It was the foods I was eating and the exercise I was not doing.

The cause of our dependence on oil is not the absence of better, less expensive alternatives, it is the tremendous pressure exerted by those interests whose continued influx of wealth depends on the absence of those alternatives. The impact on Americans from the pressing urgency of the oil crisis we face can be "Reduced" by legislation and minor challenges to the Bush Regime, but the underlying cause of the difficulty will remain.

Corruption and Greed is at the root of our dependence on oil. For example, we have the technology to power almost everything that requires it without dependence on fossil fuels, particularly automobiles and trucks. The reason we are not using these technologies is because those who have a financial interest in oil have purchased the rights to that technology and have intentionally suppressed it. They have fostered a dependence upon those fuels by automakers which at times has resembled out-and-out "bullying"!

Until we address that root cause, whatever we do to reduce the impact of high oil prices on Americans will be temporary at best. If this oil dependence is truly as urgent as we say it is then it makes little sense to attack the symptoms of the problem rather than the cause. More drilling for more oil promotes more of the same problem.

This brings me to the core of my argument in favor of Impeachment. The Bush Regime has done much to enhance the environment where such corruption can thrive. This regime encourages and protects big money interests who manipulate the flow of money for their own benefit without regard to the impact such behavior has on the very people who sent you to Washington!

This greed and manipulation extends well beyond fossil fuels. At its core, it is the same problem we are having with Health Care, Insurance, the causes of natural disasters, the value of the dollar and the Mortgage Meltdown. Making a statement about the rule of law in the United States while we have this crystalline opportunity to make such a statement is our moment in time to do so. Should we pass on this opportunity now, who knows when we may get another chance!

Soothing the troubled waters of the Status Quo at this point in history, to avoid temporary discomfort, merely extends the duration of our long-term suffering. Greed and corruption in the highest levels of our union is at the very center of almost all of the challenges we currently face.

Against the backdrop of 2 questionable elections in a row, your people, the people of the United States of America, elected you, Madam Speaker, because of our faith in your ability to rise to that challenge. Our faith is not misplaced unless you will it to be so!

And, lastly, in the event that Impeachment should bestow the Presidency upon you, Madam Speaker, wouldn't our faith be justified? Aren't you, as a woman, an American and a duly elected representative of the people, a stand for the rule of law? Aren't you, Madam Speaker, a much better steward of the ship of state than these men and women? Aren't you, Madam Speaker, a significant part of the solution rather than the problem?

If our national destiny should place you in the White House for a short while as a result of Impeachment, I believe you can and will fulfill that destiny beyond our expectations. You will certainly do so, well beyond those you would follow.

I call upon you this evening to preserve the rule of law in the United States of America and hold men and women with ill intent against it, accountable for their actions and to show those who may follow in their footsteps, that the laws of this great Democratic Republic apply to EVERYONE!

That, Madam Speaker, is my case for your pursuit of impeachment proceedings against George Bush and Dick Chaney. Please renew my faith that my elected representatives will be a stand for my best interests with courage, integrity and good intent. Nurture these articles of impeachment to be fully, openly and diligently investigated! Better yet, Champion them!

With humble sincerity, I remain yours truly,
