Opposing Views Of Dems And Republicans

Did you know that the term political left originated in Italy during the French revolution? After the King and Queen were executed, France became a republic. The terms left and right arose from the seating in the new parliament. They are still used while talking about politics these days though they are quite simplified given our complex political landscape.If you describe somebody as being on the political left that person is deemed to be more liberal in their opinions. A conservative would be referred to as being on the political right. Republicans who are likely to be conservative in their views are right wing while the Democrats are traditionally on the left side of the political arena.

As is generally the scenario with human beings, it just isn't that easy. Even within people who support the Democrats there will be some who will be extremely liberal in their views and what they consider best policy. For example you might have a few Dems who think that abortion is wrong so would follow a typical right wing viewpoint on that issue. Or you may have some other Liberals who think that the war in Afghanistan is just and thus shelling out on army should increase while the Dems usually advocate less spending on army.

In national politics, as with other things, there are always the extremes. You can have two individuals who are both considered for being on the political left, yet they hold radically different viewpoints on various topics. These different viewpoints are what makes political meetings so intriguing and the study of politics so absorbing as well as intricate.

Barack Obama is a Democrat so would be described as being on the political left. Generally his party would support problems like legalizingsame sex marriages and allowing doctor assisted suicide. The conservatives would appear to take a more religious viewpoint being pro life, anti same sex marriages and desire to introduce more religion in colleges.
