Optimus Prime - Transformers Fearless Leader
When Transformers aired in 1984, who would've guessed we'd be still speaking about a show about humanoid robots which can transform into cars and trucks and airplanes to save the planet? Nonetheless what began as a Weekend morning child's cartoon grew into a multi-million dollar operation over the decades. You could possibly state that the prosperity of Transformers can be tracked through the evolution of the franchise’s most familiar character, Optimus Prime. Prime In The Beginning – Action figures are absolutely nothing recent to the toy marketplace, and there is little indication nowadays of the trend slowing down in the near future. Optimus Prime toys together with other products along those lines, have continued to remain a staple in the toy boxes and Christmas dream lists of little kids since the early 80s. The first Optimus Prime action figure included a unique trailer to hitch onto it when Prime was in his “truck mode”. The rig’s front grill plate has ever since then become synonymous with the “good” transformers of the collection, the Autobots. Casual followers may not be aware that the original name for the Prime toy was “battle convoy”, but finally the name was adjusted by comic book writer/editor Dennis O'Neil. The standard was now established for the next series of Prime figures. Pre-Millennium Prime – Transformers began to change through the nineties following a decade-long run at the head of the group. If you were to look back at the Optimus Prime merchandise, this change becomes subtle yet visible. The action figures by themselves began to sell as non-transformable toys oddly enough. Several included gear like battle platforms and other bells and whistles, literally. One version of Prime in 1993 included an LED pulsating fist. Prime additionally went through what you could call a makeover in the early nineties. One type of toys modified the head of the Autobot’s standard red, white and blue appearance in favor of a red-black splash of paint. The change proved to be brief however since by this time Prime’s picture had grown to be synonymous with the Transformers franchise. The show would actually spin off different off shoots of different transformers so that they can keep up with the changing times and capture completely new followers. Prime According to Hollywood – Michael Bay’s reinvention of the Transformers series debuted in 2007, initiating another demographic of youth to the escapades of Prime and his Autobots versus Megatron and also the devious Decepticons. Other transformers may have altered their shapes, but Prime remained fundamentally the same Prime that lasted the test of time. Additional Autobots evolved into the most recent versions of sports and utility autos, but Bay’s Prime retained his big rig transforming same at it's been since the eighties, albeit with the newest CGI special effects.
