Orchid Care
Few plants have as much of a beautiful bloom as well as orchids, and with the right effort and care, your orchid can bloom just as beautifully as the ones in the shops. One of the most popular orchids is the purple or white phaleanopsis, heavily available in shops due to its ease of care. Orchids will generally bloom for 3 months when cared for correctly. Always keep your orchids near a window because orchids require plenty of sunlight. Try to make 12 hours of sunlight available daily, and eastern facing windows are always best for orchids, because they are heavy in the morning and light in the afternoon, which is ideal. Try to keep a 55 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit environment for your orchids, and definitely do not exceed 90 degrees, because your orchid may stop blooming altogether in extreme heat. The amount of water you subject your orchid to is also imperative to its health and well-being. One common mistake is watering too much. You actually only need to water your orchid once every 10 days. Or if you want a simpler approach, simply keep it in a water tray. But if you are going to go the route of the water tray, do not allow the roots of your orchid to touch the water, or it will become oversaturated. Let’s also not forget fertilizer. Fertilize your orchid before it blooms ideally to keep your blooming cycles going longer. You won’t need to fertilize again after they bloom. Prune your orchid often while it is blooming as well, and watch additional flowers bloom! All it takes is the right amount of tender loving care, and you too can have your own set of beautiful blooming orchids all season long! Allan Clearpool is an orchid care expert.
