Original Toy Darbie Accessories: Formational Clues
Look Down: The Floor in your Kit
It is the small things that once changed make the biggest difference, and in this case flooring is a great small change for a big difference. Undoubtedly Flooring is the foundation of your dollhouse, and as such is the foundation for all of your design choices. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. You have many choices in this decision and every type of flooring will not work for each room - The standard 5 are Carpet, Linoleum, Tile, Stone, and Hard Wood. The most popular choice is carpet, probably because we enjoy carpet so much in our houses. A quick fix to bathroom or kitchen rooms is linoleum and tile. Stone and hard wood choices are really available for those die hard hobbyist that want a very realistic house, but hey when you want quality there is no better option.
An Addition that can make a Big Difference
Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. This big discovery was floor trim. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. I applied this balsa wood to the floor of each of my walls to form a great outline along the bottom. My biggest discovery is when the trim hid most of the fine mistakes between the floor and the wall. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.
Lights and Miniatures: The Awe Factor
If you have completed a kit, furnished it, and are looking for another adventure then try lighting. This is the point when you have moved from setting up a miniature house for your kids to expanding this hobby into something more. Lighting your kit can be a fun yet challenging time. In all reality, would we enjoy it if it wasn’t a challenge? First of all the basics are simply hooking up lighting from a plug to a light. And to add upon that there are great step by step instructions that come with most kits to help you along the way. As will all aspects of this game, things will get easier with time. We recommend getting a small electrical kit to start, they are simple to set up and get started with. Remember whether you think you can or whether you think you can't you are right.
Putting contrast in your layout
The definition of a contrast is two distinct or different items that draw attention to one another. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. For the best color contrast look at a color wheel and choose colors that are opposite one another. When dealing with color contrast remember that it is easy to over due it and come out cluttered. The standard is to restrain yourself to one contrast in a room, this way it doesn't get cluttered.
