Outdoor Garden Lights Increase The Enjoyment Of A Garden

I have seen many beautiful gardens through the years and have noticed many have one thing in common. When darkness falls, the garden goes unseen for at least half the day. Why do more people not utilize outdoor garden lights to lengthen the amount of time they can enjoy their garden? Many homes are beautifully landscaped along with a well thought out and implemented outdoor lighting plan to highlight the special landscaping and architectural features of their property. By taking inspiration from these properties, you too can have a garden area that can be enjoyed any time of the day or night.

Start by lighting the paths and walkways to the garden. Even if the garden area is well lighted, it cannot be fully enjoyed if you are unable to reach it without stumbling through the darkness. There are many choices when it comes to path lighting and I am sure you will be able to locate fixtures that will blend nicely with your surrounding landscape.

Once the pathways are lit, it is time to concentrate on the garden itself. Look at the features that are first to catch your eye as you approach your garden. These will be where your outdoor garden lights planning and design will begin. If you have a water fountain or waterfall in your garden, you will definitely want to light this wonderful feature. Also consider that prize specimen tree that you have nurtured to maturity over the years. You sure want people to see that when they enter your garden. Experiment with the many ways in which the lighting can be directed at these features such as direct lighting, up lighting or down lighting. Each of these can dramatically change the way your highlighted features will appear.

Once you decide what will be lit and the type fixtures you will need, evaluate your power situation. If getting electrical power to your garden is an issue, consider utilizing solar powered outdoor lighting fixtures. There are many choices available in solar fixtures and with each passing day their power utilization improves. Thus, outdoor garden lights may be installed in even the most remote garden area.
