Overweight Children And Diabetes
Not only is being overweight a problem among children today, but so is type 2 diabetes, a disease that was previously considered, again, prevalent among only older adults, known as adult on-set diabetes. But with many kids coming down with it these days, we have to stop calling it by that old name. And there are many other health conditions that persists in children today, as well, that have always persisted in adults. And this lifestyle is due in large part to fast food restaurants, excessive use of TV and computer time, far less walking, where now nine tenths of our day-to-day getting around takes place in a personal automobile, more supermarkets where 90% of the food is all boxed and prepared stuff, and only 10% comprised of fresh and wholesome foods, and so on. As a matter of fact, if current trend continue, 1 out every 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. What can be done to turn this trend around? Here are some tips that can help you and your child. - Love your children at all cost, but give them some tough love. Most children will whine and beg to get what they want. This is especially true for parents who take their kids to the supermarket. Most children will want unhealthy food items. But no matter how much the child begs and whines, don’t give in to your child’s pleas. Especially if these foods are the most unhealthiest. The child maybe upset with you now, but you’re imprinting an important message for them that’ll help them live healthy lives. - Stop at your child’s school to see what kinds of food they’re serving, because most parents have no idea. The kinds of foods most of our schools serve are highly processed, high calorie, high sugar, high fat, frozen foods. Pack your child’s lunch, instead, with more wholesome nutritious foods. - Children learn from example. They learn a lot more by watching than they do by listening, good or bad. So if you want your child to be free of diabetes and obesity, you, as a parent, need to walk your talk, and do the same thing yourself, also.
