Pack A Power Punch In 3 Steps
Building body mass can add to punching power, but there should be more to your weight lifting routine than just bulking up. The fact of the matter is that your punching power comes from your lower body. Your legs are what drive your punches and therefore should be the focus of your strength training. Spend your weight training time on squats, dead lifts and other lower body exercises to build the muscles that will best effect your punching. Your punching technique makes a big difference in the impact of your punch. If your punch is just coming from your arm, it won’t be nearly as powerful as when you put your body into it. Think of swinging a baseball bat. When you step into it and drive your whole body you get the greatest impact. Well the same is true with a punch. Take a firm stance, and with a twisting motion of your foot, push using your legs and rotate your body while the arm is extended to throw the punch. A powerful punch will come from using your whole body. Another important aspect of a powerful punch is the timing of the punch. Think about this… …. force = mass x acceleration. That means that an impact will be greater if the objects are moving toward each other than if one is static. So for our purpose, if you punch an opponent as he is coming toward you, your punch will hit harder. With that knowledge, it only makes sense then to practice your timing of your punches. You could practice timing by working with a partner and throwing your punches as he moves forward to hit you. Another way to work your timing is with a Free Standing Punching Bag that rocks back and forth. Having a hard hitting punch is obtainable when you apply these three methods.
