Part Two: The Exercise Program

Along with a healthy diet, an effective exercise program is vital to the success of weight loss and fitness. The importance of physical activity may be played down on the cover of a magazine at the checkout line in your grocery store that offers the newest fad diet of the month, but physical activity is truly the most important part of fitness. If you want to lose weight, diet without an exercise program does nothing to maintain muscle mass, so there is no guarantee that the "fat burning" diet you are on isn’t just melting muscle mass and leaving soft flab. There is more to it than simply watching how many calories you take in.

If you are working at maintaining your weight and keeping your body tuned up and toned up, you must maintain a strong and rigorous program targeted to your specific body type. In Toronto personal trainer selection is important. Your trainer should be someone knowledgeable and able to really drive you to reach your maximum potential. You should not select a trainer that you clash with, or that you hang out with and eat pizza and ice cream with. You want someone who can motivate and inspire you. The purpose of this person is to educate you, inspire you, and motivate you to stick with your exercise program.

There are many trainers available in Toronto, and of course, some are more suited to you than others. Be sure to get one that meets your needs. If you have a program that is very cardio oriented, you will do well to get a cardio rich trainer. If you are working mostly with weights, an aerobic instructor might not be the best match. When dieting for weight loss as well as fitness, it is good to have a trainer who has been overweight and can empathize as well as motivate. You get the idea. A good fit is vital to your success.

Another aspect to think about is gender. Some people may benefit from a trainer of the opposite sex, but generally speaking, it can be less distracting to have someone of your own gender to guide you on this journey of fitness and healthy living. The focus is on your exercise program, not your trainer’s glutes. What may seem like a good motivation at first can get in the way of your focus and become a detriment. If you are properly focused and your Toronto personal trainer serves to sharpen that focus, gender shouldn’t play a role. Just be aware of your motivations and be honest with yourself.
