Paying For Your Handicap Van

For those who are handicapped or disabled in any way, a handicap van can give them freedom that they would not otherwise have. Without a vehicle, they are often stuck in their homes and left to the whim of other people in their lives to take them where they want to go. A handicap van is a valuable resource for many, yet affording one is not always easy.

While you may not believe you can truly afford a handicap van, you may be surprised to know that you have many options, some of which may surprise you.

The first thing to consider is that just like every other type of vehicle, you can buy a used handicap van at the fraction of the cost of a new one. This is often going to be the best way to afford a handicap van. While you may not be able to get all of the features you are looking for in used van, if you can’t afford a new van, then this at least assures you can afford something.

The first step is to visit a dealer in your area and see what they have as far as used vans. You may not find exactly what you are looking for, but chances are good that you will find something you like, and it helps to know that most features that may be missing are easy to add on after the fact. Don’t discount the value of a used van just because there are a few minor features that you think are missing.

Just as you would with any car dealer, you should be willing to bargain on the price of your handicap van. The dealer will likely have marked it up and will be willing to go down on the price some just to make the sale.

Beware that if you are financing your handicap van that you want to pay attention to more than the monthly payment when trying to determine what you can afford. Many people buy based on this and end up paying much more over the life of the loan than by understanding the total cost of the vehicle.

Don’t let yourself go without a handicap van because you think you can’t afford it. If you take the time to search, you can find a decent and reliable vehicle for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
